winds of change

It got cooler today.
Actually, it got cooler yesterday as the wind blew in something that must be Canadian.
My walk home from the 2/3 train crosses 5th Avenue. I look straight down--towards the other home, towards the South--and i have a grand view of the Empire State Building. Tonight it was glowing with a deep red, most likely a forboding of All Hallows Eve.
Across 5th Avenue, i pass Piatto D'oro, a tiny Italian restauraunt where one of the waiters often waits outside to bid me "good afternoon" on my walk home from work. One evening i ended up on his side of the street, and nearly ran into him, distracted as i was with skateboarding children nearly knocking me down. "Principessa!" he lilted to me, and i mused the rest of the walk home how the Italian men simply discovered four syllables that light up a woman's face, and then gave those syllables to mean royalty. It did not matter what the syllables meant, their mere pronunciation stirred my heart.
There is a film crew set up around the corner from our apartment today. For the film, "PUSH," whatever that is (imdb lists 5 films by the name PUSH, and two currently in production. it doesn't appear that either of them are Stiller/Carell flicks about childbirth). Film crews are a common sight in the city, of course--big white trailers filled with lights, cables, bins labeled, "props," fancy trailers with awnings over varying qualities of catered spread.
It was already dark at 6:00 as i let myself in my apartment and hurried to settle in so i could listen to three new and Very Special songs i received today.
The wind has brought to me a surreal season, in which i am enjoying the exquisite delight of true surprises, um, although such delight can tip into anxiety if i do not sleep enough. A surreal season indeed, in which many things that i thought were not, in fact are.

I think "surreal" is the order of the day. Here's another good one: "astonied." That's my word for the week!
