my new favorite store in nyc...

...Books of Wonder on 18th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.

The whole block is full of some fantastic shops, besides this jewel of a "Children's" bookstore, which, it is fabled, was the model for "Shop Around the Corner" in YOU'VE GOT MAIL. The fact that there is an enormous Barnes & Noble half a block away suggests some truth in the speculation.

So. Speaking of "Children's" books (which i put in quotation marks because i prefer them to books marketed for adults), i am giddy today with the discovery that the release date for Harry Potter 7 has been announced! Counting down to 21 July to learn what the "Deathly Hallows" are. Oooooh, it gives me shivers of all the good sort.

Speaking of shivers, I finally watched MEMENTO last night. What a thrill of a film. A really great ride that was neither too gruesome nor darkly disturbing for me. I tend to be pretty sensitive to psychological thriller suspense movies. For example, STAY, which stars a favorite actor, Ewan McGregor. I couldn't finish watching it. My roommate generously turned it off, and found out the ending online. Oosh. Not worth the ride for me.

Speaking of darkly disturbing, tonight i am putting in THE BROTHERS GRIMM, which i naively thought had something to do with the story writers, but now i'm not sure. No matter. Two hours with Heath Ledger and Matt Damon is sure to be some kind of pleasure.
